OUTPATIENT COUNSELING SERVICE
When health insurance clients go for a check-up or a consultation with a doctor at participating health care facilities, Calcutta Kids will be notified. We will send a health worker to their house to (i) encourage them to follow the doctor's prescribed treatment,
(ii) provide simple pieces of behavioural advice to quicken recovery, (iii) make a note of the clients condition, so that we can decide if any follow-up action is necessary for them. This service is a way for Calcutta Kids to improve the quality of outpatient care, so that even clients that do not make a claim still get a tangible benefit from buying the health insurance product.
This component of the scheme is being supported by the International Labour Organization's Microinsurance Innovation Facility. This service is something that has never been done in other micro health insurance schemes, and it can potentially shed light on how to improve the social benefit and financial sustainability of micro health insurance schemes elsewhere.
