SIZE OF THE INSURED POPULATION
The population of the slum is slightly less than 18,000 people . Based on the participation rates of micro health insurance schemes operating elsewhere in South Asia, Calcutta Kids expects that 6,000 people will be insured in the first year.

In order to spread risk and thus ensure the financial viability of the scheme, every member of a household must be insured in order for them to be eligible to buy the insurance product.
