DECREASED VULNERABILITY
Calcutta Kids was initially motivated to create a micro health insurance scheme because of the large number of people it observed that were forced to extreme measures to deal with the financial costs associated with serious illness incidents. Many would borrow from local informal moneylenders at exhorbitant interest rates, leading to debt cycles that would debilitate entire families. Others would be forced to sell assets in order to pay. The micro health insurance scheme will be accompanied by a significant reduction in the occurance of these practices.
